Why should you consider the tech industry when thinking about changing career? The answer is simple: it is a sector with many opportunities and with an ongoing dynamic market!
There is something for everyone: from web developing, if you want to create a website from scratch, to graphic design if your creativity is endless, to data analysis if you are passionate about interpreting figures, to cyber analysis if you want to protect data and tackle potential cyber attacks. The range of digital professions is vast! According to your wishes and desires, you will find the job that's right for you.
Moreover, and this is not to be underestimated, digital professions offer relatively fast salary evolutions: as you quickly acquire new skills your value on the market increases too!
3 statistics to convince you
- 9 out of 10 companies intend to hire digital workers in the next 12 months, according to a study by France Digital.
- 40% of French companies reported that they had to give up opening a new position in 2018 due to the lack of suitable candidates, according to a Kyu Lab survey.
- More than 15,000 digital jobs are created every year in France since 2009, according to data from Acoss (2018).
What it takes to work in the tech industry:
- Knowing how to search for information by itself, being curious as technology evolves quickly and what you learn one day can be done in a complete different way a few months later.
- Being able to work alone but also in a team as in the digital field we go from working alone to working in a team quite often in alternating periods. You must know how to work autonomously and in a group project.
- Being proactive as setting up a viable project over time, requires you to think both about how to set it up at a given time and also how it can evolve on the long term.
To recap
If you want a dynamic job in a growing industry, in which you can earn a good living and evolve quickly, if you are relatively curious and flexible, then you should be interested in working in the tech industry. If you're not familiar with computers or don't have the right technical skills: don't worry, you can learn it! Once you have made your choice of profession, you can search for the most suitable training for you. I will also talk to you about 3 particularly interesting professions in the digital world:
1 - Web Developer
What is web development? It’s using programming languages to create, write, test and/or document websites, applications or softwares. In short, all the websites you visit and all the apps you use (on your phone, in your car, etc...) have been written and produced by developers, who work in teams around a common project (a website, an app or a software).
The main skills to succeed as a web developer are:
- precision,
- passion,
- team spirit,
- curiosity,
- autonomy.

2 - Data Analyst
Companies are generating an ever-increasing amount of information internally (on customers, service providers, employees, products, etc.).
A data analyst is responsible for analysing all the data that the company has generated in order to make relevant recommendations. These recommendations are intended to help the company's managers and employees make better decisions.
The main skills to succeed as a data analyst are:
- objectivity,
- analytical mind,
- discretion.

3 - Cyber Analyst
It is a relatively "new" profession, which has only existed for a few years. Its aim is to detect threats in real time, to analyse them and anticipate potential future events. A cyber analyst also identifies the sources of threats and blocks them as quickly as possible, guides technical teams on the corrective measures to be taken and ensures their operability and usability. Its role is also to ensure permanent threats monitoring, documenting knowledge bases, establishing threat management procedures and continuously monitoring the vulnerability of the company's softwares, websites and data in general.
The main skills to succeed as a cyber analyst are:
- summarising skills,
- having a global vision,
- reactivity,
- proactivity.
