2020 Jobs

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projected some of the fastest growing careers for the present year of 2020. A lot of them are related to the nursing, caring and therapy professions, because of the aging population, which will begin to require more help than before. Some crafting and construction professions, as well as professions from the medicine field were also mentioned. Also, jobs in technology are a constant when you search for job trends in the near future. There are always a lot of opportunities, in different fields of work, which depend on how the world is evolving - it’s up to us to search for them and take advantage of them!

What about technology?

Jobs in technology are the future - that’s as simple as it gets. The world is getting increasingly reliant on technology, causing jobs in this area to multiply, as they become more needed. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that “employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12% until 2028”. This means that people who specialize in the tech field are progressively more desired by companies.

Great Employability

Web Development and Data Analysis are examples of areas of expertise that are trending in this technological world - sometimes, the offer is bigger than the demand. A simple research of job-searching platforms will present you with plenty of offers in these fields, in multiple companies and countries. By searching for “Web Developer - Portugal” on LinkedIn, for example, you’ll get more than 1000 results. If you do the same research for data related jobs, you will also get thousands of results. And this is just regarding Portugal!

Wild Code School’s Role

At Wild Code School, we put a lot of effort into preparing our students for the reality of the job market. From giving LinkedIn and CV workshops to organizing Job Fairs, we try to make sure our students leave the courses as prepared as they can to start working immediately after they leave the school.  We keep in mind that, even though technical knowledge and skills are crucial to be successful, soft-skills are a great asset to have, in order to stand out from the crowd.

Soft-skills like teamwork, working under pressure or having a positive attitude towards problems are among the most desired by employers. These are the kind of soft-skills that we try to stimulate in students during our courses, so that they don’t just acquire the technical knowledge, but also these valuable assets when it comes to distinguishing themselves from others that are applying to the same job offers.
