The prerequisites of our data analysis course
What does the job of data analyst consist of? What is his role?
Data analysts analyze data and extract insights to help guide the strategic decisions of a company and its growth.
The data analyst works directly with data extensively as a part of the profession and has three main goals:
Data analysts have been increasingly sought after by companies because they allow them to manipulate their data with finesse and make smarter data driven decisions. Data analyst skills are among the most in demand, ahead of programming skills, and skills related to software design.
For more details about what data analysts do, check out our detailed job description.
What is the difference between a data analyst and a data scientist?
Data scientists focus on future data and predictions by building deep learning algorithms to make prescriptive and predictive analyses. They can predict market trends, create image recognition systems, recommendation systems and more.
To become a data scientist several languages are required including R, Python and Scala as well as a strong mathematics background.
On the other hand, data analysts are not as concerned with future predictions or building deep learning algorithms from scratch but instead on gathering, cleaning, organizing, structuring and visualizing existing data for the purpose of developing data driven business insights.
What qualifications do I need to be a data analyst?
For many types of entry level data analyst positions you only need a certification such as the one provided by Wild Code School along with some relevant experience, which our practical scenarios and projects provide you with.
This course is designed to be all inclusive for helping you obtain your first position as a data analyst.
How to register for the data analysis course?
You must complete our 3-step application process to register for our training course:
Registration on our website: you will have to fill in a form and choose the course and the campus of your choice. Our training courses take place on campus or remotely. If you want to join a remote training course, you just have to select the "Remote" campus in the language of your choice.
Motivational interview: you will discuss your professional project and your motivation to join Wild Code School with an admissions manager.
Technical interview: you will present your tech challenge (an exercise to be completed after the motivational interview) and discuss with an instructor whether you have the potential to become a tech specialist.
The application process can be completed in 1 week and registrations are open until 7 days before the start of the course.
What is the format of the 5-month data analysis course? Can I choose distance live learning?
Flexibility is important to many of our students. Therefore we have designed this course to be fully accessible either on-campus or via our remote format. If you choose the remote option, you will connect each morning to your class to meet the instructor and the other students in your class live. Most of the instructional activities of our training will be completed live in teams.

What skills will I be able to use at the end of my course? What are the top 3 skills for a data analyst?
Three of the top skills for data analysts are:
-
Democratize: transform raw data into relevant information, and present and interpret the data to answer a business question. An example may include a dashboard with graphs and KPIs to manage and measure an activity.
-
Automate: automate recurring tasks such as data cleansing and collection. Process a large volume of data in an automated fashion. An example may include writing a Python script for data processing that is connected to a SQL database.
-
Modeling: simplify data to retain the most important and relevant data, infer trends and projections, potentially use machine learning.
Which is why at the end of this 5-month data analysis course you will be able to:
Process data: using Python algorithms and object-oriented programming.
Collect data: perform a SQL database query, automate content collection using HTML scraping, understand RGPD issues, perform geocoding.
Model and present data: gain an understanding of data science, machine learning, and Big Data platforms, learn how to create dynamic data visualizations and manipulate them, create visualizations and dashboards with Tableau, Folium and PowerBI.
